Music Lessons for Children

in Mississauga/Etobicoke

Our School of Music CA Academy of MUSIC in Mississauga offers music lessons in Mississauga for children from the age of four. We have different programs depending on the needs and abilities of each individual student. We firmly believe that everyone has musical abilities that can be developed with a little effort. Music lessons develop memory, coordination, discipline and self-confidence. It is a fact that children who are involved in music and play a musical instrument tend to do better in school. Music lessons are also a lot of fun and can bring a lot of joy to a student and their family.

Our students have an opportunity to participate in recitals during the school year and are well prepared for their RCM examinations and their pursuit of post-secondary education in music. We aim to develop our students’ confidence through live performances in front of an audience, thus setting them up for success in their examinations and future auditions. When it comes to preparing students for the demands of live performances, we focus on replacing their initial fearful reaction with excitement. We are happy to accept all students and look forward to showing you how much music lessons with us can change your child’s life. To us, each child is a little Mozart.

Mini Musicians Program

CA Academy of MUSIC offers Mini Musicians Program For Children Aged 3-5.

Parents often ask us about which age is best for their children to start taking music lessons. Our answer is simple: the earlier the better! According to Dr. Robert A. Cutietta, author of “Raising Musical Kids”, a child’s musical education should begin as soon as they are born. Parents can begin teaching infants music simply by singing and dancing with them. Once a child turns three, Dr. Cutietta recommends that parents enrol their children in formal music lessons at a music school.

Our Mini Musicians program gives children aged 3-5 the opportunity to discover music through play! We engage with their natural curiosity, and love for structured games and novel sounds to teach them music in a way that will keep them entertained, interested, and learning! The Mini Musicians program teaches children early on that learning music is fun and rewarding rather than boring and intimidating, thus giving them a proper foundation for any future music lessons.

Children in the Mini Musicians program will learn to:

  • Clap and move their bodies to multiple types of rhythms

  • Recognize differences between notes

  • Recognize and draw rudimentary musical symbols

  • Name musical instruments by their appearance and sound

  • Reflect on the emotional content of music

       ...and much more!

RCM Program

The Royal Conservatory of Music is a Canadian institution of global renown which sets curriculum guidelines for music educators, and which administers exams to determine where those who study music fall in terms of their graded level system. The RCM can also accredit students who successfully complete their exams.

Benefits of successful RCM accreditation include increased chance of employment in the music and music education fields, a sense of personal accomplishment, and its transferability as a credit for secondary students. Secondary students who are in grade 11 can claim successful completion of RCM grade 7 as a credit while secondary students in grade 10 can earn their credit from successful completion of RCM grade 8.

All of CA Mississauga music school courses are built around ensuring success with their RCM examinations. Our School of Music in Mississauga have an in-depth knowledge of RCM requirements and we tailor our music lessons to these requirements. For this reason, our Mississauga Music School place emphasis on sight reading, technique, and musical theory. Even those who are not interested in going through RCM examinations will benefit from our approach because our music lessons are centered on improving all-around musicianship, which is beneficial whether or not one will be taking RCM examinations.

Music Lessons for Adults

in Mississauga/Etobicoke

Our School of Music CA Academy of MUSIC in Mississauga has experience with teaching students from many different backgrounds, styles, needs, and goals. Adult students come to us with varying levels of experience – from those who have been playing music since childhood to those who have never played a note! Whether you’re a beginner who requires a “from scratch” approach or a seasoned amateur musician in need of a tune up or somewhere in between, we have the know how and educational background to teach to your level and needs. You will also have the opportunity to practice playing in front of an audience at our recitals.

When you take music lessons with CA Academy of MUSIC, you’ll find that we provide a pleasant and non-judgemental environment that is tailored to your own goals. Taking music lessons as an adult means that you as the participant should have control over your own learning experience. With us you can control the genre/style/era of music that you would like to focus on, the songs or pieces you would like to learn, the specific skills you would like to work on developing, and the pace at which you would like to progress.

Unlike our students who are still in elementary or high school, adult music students often have extremely busy schedules as post secondary students, professionals, workers, business owners, or homemakers. We acknowledge that you may have less time with which to practice than our younger students. For this reason, one of our main goals when teaching adults is to provide you with guidance as to how to make the most out of the practice time that your busy schedule allows. Knowing how to practice efficiently and effectively is extremely important for every learner and we strive to ensure that you are equipped to practice well.

Music Lessons for Seniors

in Mississauga/Etobicoke

With retirement comes the freedom to use one’s time to engage in the sorts of activities that you have always wanted. Music lessons can be a wonderful way to enliven your golden years! Playing music is an extremely fruitful hobby because of its capacity to add so much to many aspects of our lives. While taking music lessons is alone a stimulating and pleasant experience, learning to play music can also lead one to make new friends by joining a musical group or band, take part in the musical education and interests of one’s children and grandchildren and have a new way to remember one’s favourite songs and pieces of music. Making and playing music is an inherently social activity and it can be a fantastic way to develop old relationships and forge new ones.

These days it has been made clear that the brain is a muscle that must be exercised just like our biceps and triceps! The way to exercise our brains is to challenge ourselves mentally with new and exciting activities and pastimes. One popular way to do this is to solve puzzles like sudoku or crosswords. These can be stimulating, but they lack clear tangible results and there is generally no useful skill that one masters in playing these sorts of games. On the other hand, learning an instrument provides the same results gained from other mental exercises while also giving one new and exciting abilities that can have a real positive impact on one’s life. Learning an instrument, or building on the musical skills one already possesses, gives one the sense that they are discovering a completely new side of themselves and their talents. Exercise has never been so enjoyable!

Learning An Instrument Can Give Your Brain A Boost

Learning a musical instrument is not only fun, relaxing, and aesthetically saisfying – it can also provide a boost to your (or your child’s) brain! Studies performed in the field of neuroscience on the effects of musical training on the brain demonstrate that learning a musical instrument can greatly improve one’s mental ability. Musicians’ brains tend to be larger and more well connected than their non-musician counterparts. These structural differences give the musician an edge when it comes to “verbal memory, spatial reasoning, and literacy skills”.

Musical training for children in particular can lead to long term cognitive gains. One study by White-Schwoch et al. showed that older adults who took part in as little as three years of musical training as children were able to process speech better than adults who never had any formal musical training. Another study conducted by the German Institute For Economic Research shows that children who have musical training “have better cognitive skills and school grades and are more conscientious, open and ambitious.”

While musical training can provide a big boost to the adult and child’s brain, it takes more than just listening to music to achieve that effect! The so-called “Mozart effect” - the theory that merely listening to classical music can make you smarter – has been debunked. The brain boosting effects of music can only be had through the challenging but pleasant process that is learning an instrument.
